The Coopérative de Santé de Québec was formally founded on May 9, 1944, an organization with working-class roots, it saw diverse social groups working to create an economic resource that would serve them in a highly competitive environment. Throughout its history, SSQ has remained true to its mutualist values.

Annual meeting 2024 of Beneva Mutual
Following the Special General Meetings of SSQ Mutual and La Capitale Civil Service Mutual held on October 4, 2023, members entitled to vote ratified the merger of the two mutuals to form Beneva Mutual. This merger, subject to the approval of a private act by the Quebec National Assembly, will take effect on January 1, 2024.
Beneva Mutual’s annual meeting will be held on April 25, 2024. The transitional measures set out in Beneva Mutual's bylaws indicate that the delegate designation process is to be implemented as early as October 2023 so that the mutual's first delegates are designated as if this process had always been in effect and can take office on March 15, 2024.
